The EU-SENSE panel at the International Conference on Military Technologies 2021 – overview

On the 8 of June, 2021, the EU-SENSE project was presented at the International Conference on Military Technologies 2021 (8-11 June, 2021). The conference was organized both online and in-person, at the University of Defence in Brno. The discussed topics involved air force and aircraft technology, communication and information technology, geospatial and meteorological support, avionics, radar systems and air defence, weapon systems, special and combat vehicles, military engineering, military cybernetics and robotic systems.

The EU-SENSE panel, which complemented the scope of the conference issues, started with a short project overview by Dr Małgorzata Gawlik-Kobylińska from University of Warsaw. The perspective of practitioners was highlighted by Insp. Phil Menary and Insp. Jenny Martin(Police Service of Northern Ireland) who delivered a presentation on Current challenges in CBRNe domain for end users. The third speaker, Dr Robert Sigg from FOI, the Swedish Defence Research Agency, explained the idea of FOI – Dispersion Engine, a support tool to the EU-SENSE system for source location estimation and hazard prediction. Next,Mr Robert Kopp (Technisch-Mathematische Studiengesellschaft mbh, Germany), presented EU-SENSE project activities by Technisch-Mathematische Studiengesellschaft mbh. Possibilities and future directions were outlined by Dr Eng. MagdalenaGikiewicz from the Main School of Fire Service in Poland in her speech European sensor system for CBRN applications – application perspectives. The final remarks on the training of the CBRN first responders were made by Dr Mariusz Urban (University of Warsaw) in the presentation on The EU-SENSE training system for first responders. The panel was attended by online (Google Meet) and on-site conference participants. It was a great occasion for exchanging experiences related to interdisciplinary CBRN research activities.
